Stupid Driver Tricks - Part One
Ok. We all know I am a perfect driver and never do anything questionable while behind the wheel. Let's just get that out into the open. Now that we've established my authority on the topic, allow me to school the pitiful. You know who you are....you who have somehow managed to pass a test at the DMV, but fail to secure a grasp of the obvious. This will be an ongoing series.
PART ONE. Smoking while driving. (You may skip this if it does not apply to you.)
While sitting behind the wheel, tilt your head ever so slightly down and to the right. See that little drawer? Hint: It's not for spare change or Tic-Tacs. Here is the technical name and definition (please write it down in your composition book):
ashtray ('ash-"trA) - a receptacle for tobacco ashes and for cigar and cigarette butts
Now, take a look behind you. See that Jeep Wrangler with the top and doors off? That is NOT an ashtray. You can tell the difference because the Jeep has wheels. It's also a bit larger and has a person inside. A person who does not fancy having a flaming butt land in her lap causing her to veer out of control.
Got that? Ok, now take a look to your left and to your right. See those dried out leaf piles? Or, depending on the season, the grass that has browned from a drought? Those are also not ashtrays. They (along with their indigenous wildlife) are begging you to reconsider where you flick.
Finally, please take a look at the ground around you. The blacktop and the sidewalk. Those are also not ashtrays. In fact, where some people live, cigarette butts are called LITTER.
Yet, it's somehow our problem that you don't want to dirty your Lexis SUV, Honda sedan or Ford pickup truck with the stench of tobacco or bother to empty a little receptacle each day. I suppose we should just learn to put up with it instead. After all, you paid good money for your car...why should you have to be inconvenienced any further?

Yeah, I agree about the "edit" button (assuming you're talking about having one for the comments). They should at least give you an hour or so to make corrections.
So, throwing cigarette butts out the window is... bad?
I had a friend who threw one out his window and it flew back in the back window. He stopped throwing them out of the car after that.
LOL....one of my friends spit out the window and the same thing happened!
Not to mention that seeing a small red flicker come flying at one's windshield can often cause a driver to hit the brakes spontaneously.... I wonder how many accidents have occured because of that?
